Communications strategy for a non-profit in global development.

The client.

The Centre of Excellence for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics is a global resource hub. It supports efforts to build effective civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems. These systems are essential for advancing human rights and gender equality.

Based in Ottawa, Canada, the Centre is funded by Global Affairs Canada, the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Our relationship.

I led content projects for the Centre as a copywriter at Plainly Speaking, a communications agency based in Ottawa, Canada. I worked closely with the Centre’s subject matter experts to transform their technical knowledge into accessible yet accurate content for a wide audience. They came to rely on me for:

  • Content that balances technical insights with persuasive advocacy messaging

  • Plain language editing that makes complex concepts easier to understand without diluting their meaning

  • Genuine passion for their work

My work.

Communications strategy

I consulted on a communications strategy for the Centre, focusing on promoting its mission to a non-technical audience. I developed core messaging and language to convey the compassionate values behind its vital work. I also outlined opportunities to humanise their content through storytelling.

Insight articles

I ghostwrote articles exploring the importance of good CRVS systems for ensuring human rights, and strategies for developing and strengthening them. I worked closely with subject matter experts to ensure technical accuracy.
